When I’m photographing cities, I am often drawn to the layers of different buildings that you can see in one view.  Victorian cathedrals lined up with 21st century glass and steel.  Using a long lens is a good way of grouping these thing together and flattening the distance between them, both in meters and years.  This example from Edinburgh is a bit different because in the background is what I believe is an extinct volcano – perhaps the most ancient of constructions – contrasted with the greystone city streets.
